 Using the Library

Information services offered by the IfN library are not limited to the journals and books on stock. Literature that is not available within the IfN can be ordered by inter-library loan. For this, a written order is needed which must contain the account number of the customer. Diploma candidates, doctoral candidates, visiting scientists and students need the written consent of the person responsible for this account. All expenses associated with the inter-library loan have to be covered by the ordering account number. A loan request form, stating all available information in a readable way, facilitates a fast procurement of the required literature. If at all possible, a copy of the original source (e.g., the printout of an online search result, or the relevant data via 'Cut' and 'Paste') should be attached. Inter-library loan orders may be handed in at the information desk in the library. Due to the high costs involved, external users cannot make use of the inter-library loan via the library; for them, other library services as SUBITO are available instead.

Searching for the required information FIZ Karlsruhe produces databases and operates the Europea Service Center of STN International (CAS/USA, JST/Japan, FIZ/Germany), the service for sci-tech information with a portfolio of more than 210 databases. Costs/Account information and help: Mr. Löw.

Borrowing of any library materials ist restricted to IfN and Universitätsklinikum staff members and students previously registered at the library. They see to it that, during office hours, an literature on loan is available for other users on short notice.

The loan system is restricted to monographs only, where books can be boorowed for up to four weeks. Journals, both bound and unbound, cannot be borrowed.

External library users have no borrowing privileges, as all of the library holdings need to be at the disposal of the IfN and Universitätsklinikum staff at all times. These holdings are directly accessible in the open-stack magazines, so that users can help themselves t all books and periodicals, and therefore copy any article the wish on their own.

Two copy machines and two computers (PC and Mac) are at their disposal.
