Head:

The special laboratory for Electron- and Laserscanning- Microscopy is a center for multi-dimensional microscopy, which provides state-of-the-art instrumentation and service for the departments and research groups of the institute .

The equipment reaches from fluorescence light microscopes, laserscanning and 2Photon microscopes, transmission electron microscope (TEM) , to a multi-parameter-multi-detector microscope based on time- and space correlated single photon counting (TSCSPC).

Our research activities focus on the morphological and biophysical analysis of cellular, subcellular and molecular dynamics concerning neuronal plasticity with special emphasis on high resolution imaging (including FLIM & FRET spectroscopy) of synapse associated proteins and membrane-associated signal cascades.

• Morphological finestructure of electrophysiologically and/or chemically identified neurons
• Immunocytochemical characterization of neuronal circuits and/or cell populations
• Immunocytochemical detection of synapse associated proteins and/or receptors
• Software development for the handling of large image data sets (MIS-Browser)
• Immunocytochemical and ultrastructural analysis of inhibitory circuits and synaptic contacts in epileptic hippocampus
• Live-visualization of morphological dynamics in in vitro systems
