The service performances of the special laboratory informatics are substantially determined by functions of computer networking and thus the installation and administration of hard and software components of the local area network of the IfN (ifNet).

The scientific interest of the Informatics Lab is in Neuroinformatics. Informatics is the European term for computer sciences and Neuroinformatics is a field at the crossroads between the neurosciences, the computer sciences and the cognitive sciences.

The neural networks developed for tasks in bionics, cybernetics and artificial intelligence are simplified models of real neural structures. Furthermore a main field in Neuroinformatics is the modeling and simulation of neural behaviour, information processing of neurons and small neural structures.

Investigated Topics

  • Using Neural Networks for Image Processing and Analyzing of Biological Data
  • Development of new Neural Network Structures (see Multilevel Hypermap Architecture )
  • Modeling and Simulation of Neurons and small neural Structures

Applied Methods

  • Using development and simulation software (MATLAB, Genesis, SNNS)
  • Implementation of own application and simulation software (C-Modules, MATLAB)
  • Using KHOROS-Development-Tool
